Watch for the Light

“Watch for the lights!” I can remember my parents driving us through neighborhoods at Christmastime while telling my sister and I to look to the left, look to the right, and “watch for the lights.” As we drove down many dark streets in the cold of winter our faces would light up with joy when we spotted a house decked out with hundreds of thousands (or so it seemed) lights. What would the community miss? My Favorite Story

My favorite story is found only in Luke’s Gospel (Ch. 15:11-32) and is known as “The Prodigal Son.”  I love the way Jesus is able to tell a simple story that has so many complex themes running through it.  I learn something new every time I read this passage.  It speaks to me like no other passage in the Bible. I guess because like so many, I have identified with the younger brother who ran away from life with a pocketful of money (his daddy’s money) and a thought in his mind of how much more fun life would be someplace else.  Of course only to realize that the life he always wanted was already in his father’s house!
